Founded in 1974 by beloved English teacher Mr. Harold Norman, the Churubusco High School Fine Arts Department was built on a simple but powerful vision: to create a place where students could discover their voices, develop confidence, and grow into compassionate young adults through the performing arts.
More than 50 years later, that vision continues to thrive.
Each year, the CHS Fine Arts Department proudly presents two major productions—a fall musical and a spring play—offering students opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes. From acting, singing, and dancing to building sets, operating lights and sound, securing patronages, and welcoming audiences, students experience every facet of theatrical production while working together toward a common goal.
While producing outstanding performances is an important part of our mission, the true impact of theater reaches far beyond the curtain call. Through the collaborative nature of the performing arts, students develop confidence, creativity, resilience, communication skills, empathy, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging. They learn to solve problems, support one another, and rise to challenges with courage and determination.
We believe theater doesn't just create memorable productions—it shapes character, builds lifelong friendships, and prepares students to become thoughtful, confident leaders in their schools, workplaces, and communities.
